Every year on October 1st, my church honors St. Francis by holding a Blessing of the Animals outdoor service. The congregation, along with the whole community, is invited to bring their animal companions to receive a blessing by our priest. Many of the younger children in our congregation brought their hermit crabs, hamsters, or beloved stuffed animals – some even in their own carriers.
St. Francis of Assisi has always been my favorite saint. So in love with God/Jesus, he preached to the birds and any other living creature who would listen. He was known to move earth worms out of the foot path, so as not to harm any of God's beings. Ahimsa. Something I truly believed in, though now have let pass...
Today's service was to honor our other family members – the ones who stay home every other Sunday morning of the year. I can't imagine my life without Pico and Lucy. They were my companions before I met Bobby and before I became the independent woman I am now. I love those little nerds.

Bobby and I have been contemplating adding another little girl to our life - a canine one. So many breeds though - who can decide? We've agreed on a small variety - being that the little poops are more tolerable. We went to Bark in the Park after the church service, in hopes of finding a breed we could both agree on. There is a huge community of dog owners and they are in full force! All kinds of people were there with all kinds of breeds. Great danes, greyhounds, Burmese mountain dogs, lots of jack russels, pugs, yorkies...
We have a list of breeds to which we have narrowed down:
1. miniature black poodle (my pick)
2. shitzu (Bobby's pick - don't laugh)
3. corgi (this breed reminds me the most of pico)
4. yorkshire terrier
5. tibetan spaniel
6. shiba inu
Does anyone else have any suggestions? This is our criteria:
• Must be child / cat-friendly
• Hypo-allergenic is a plus since I have allergies
• Must be small enough for me to cradle like a baby

Cassie- why don't you guys just have a baby? Babies are children, thus they are child friendly. They are hypoallergenic. You can cradle a baby the way you would cradle a baby in your arms. just sayin'...
Bobby's top pick is really a shitzu?
What about going to the pound?
It's hard to find little dogs at the pound. They're usually there for a reason. I'm all up for adopting, but have you ever seen shitzu or poodle puppies at the pound?
No babies. Not yet anyway.
Cassie,
Here is a link with a lot of breed rescue groups. Also, you can google to find other breed rescues, there are tons.
