brunch mafia
julie & matt hosted the latest brunch. i brought some deviled eggs to celebrate the approaching holiday.
i'm scary...part two.
My other little stuffed goblin was starting to get lonely, being the only ghoul around this part of town. I couldn't resist.
This was the most exciting part of my day - leaving the building for the first time at 6pm to go get a tall non-fat caramel macchiato from the Starbucks a block away.
I don't think I ever grew out of the stuffed animal phase. Yes, there is a stuffie craze, but I think it's due to the lonely nature of the graphic designer job. Staring at a monitor all day will do strange things to one's psyche. Or perhaps I can blame it on my only child upbringing. Without friends or siblings, one just relies on creating one's own company.

up to my eyeballs.
We are insanely busy at work now, so I have only a few minutes to write an update (I usually do these over lunch breaks, but I only have time to gulp down a mug of chicken noodle soup).
First - congrats to Gene and Charmaine. We attended their wedding on Saturday and I wore my new black dress which is reminiscent of something Laura (PR) would design. I cropped my head out 'cause I was looking a little Jerri Blank in the photo. By the way, it's faux.

I bought this dress, along with a new pair of heels, in the hour we had to kill in between the ceremony and the reception. I wore a blue dress to the wedding and the image of Blanch from Golden Girls popped in my head and wouldn't leave.

Secondly - I'm making a quilt in what little spare time I have left after work. Thought I would post the project in stages for those of you who appreciate these kind of things.
First stage: the design - obviously inspired by Denise Schmidt. I looked up her couture quilts online and found they sell for $5,000. I'm not going to hand-sew, but hopefully it'll look pretty close.

My new little revamped studio. This is the first time in years I've actually had my sewing machine on a table. I was usually on the floor. Yes, Beth, that is your little cutting pad - I need to return.

Laying out the squares. These are rough, as they will be cut down to size and a dark brown border will surround each square. Each square should be slightly different in its design. Overall color of quilt will be cream with these squares within.

Gotta run!
i'm scary!
Starbucks has some really cute halloween inspired plushies and thermal coffee containers right now.
stacks and piles
Spent yesterday evening reorganizing my magazines. Why is it that I feel the need to save every art and design magazine when I have no problem throwing out my Vanity Fairs every month? As soon as I toss them out, I know I'll need to look up an interior from a 1999 Metropolitan Home or an obscure artist in a back issue of Art News. Does anyone else have this problem? I recently had to look through all my back issues of Living for a photo styling gig, so I don't think I'll be able to part with any of these. I'll just have to buy more files.

Also watched a documentary last night called The Devil and Daniel Johnston. It's a Netflix must-stick-in-your-queue-immediately DVD. It documents the life of Daniel Johnston, a manic depressive singer/songwriter/artist who was recently featured in the Whitney Biennial. He walks the fine line of outsider art, but technically can not be categorized because at one time he had art training. But that was before being institutionalized. Another story of art and madness, but tenderly executed. And don't worry, Daniel Johnston is still living and doing well, so there is no tragic suicide climax to damper the mood. I ended up ordering one of his albums after the movie finished.
It's Friday again. No more disturbing self-portraits to post. And to the person who commented, "you have too much time on your hands," poo on you. I would say suck it, but I know my mom reads this blog. Lack of time and constant stress leads to smashing clear acrylic palettes against your face for fun because it only takes seconds. Enjoy the weekend, folks.
a little find
Recently someone recommended the thrift store on Little Creek Road which was just rebuilt after a fire. The name escapes me, but I think it's Thrift Store USA. It's organized, spacious, reasonably priced, and doesn't have that unpleasant smell that causes me to start scratching my head and body wildly upon exiting the building. My latest little find was a vintage TV tray with the metal folding legs. The metal woven basket behind it was a birthday gift from Marissa, which I love.
st. francis is a friend of mine.

Every year on October 1st, my church honors St. Francis by holding a Blessing of the Animals outdoor service. The congregation, along with the whole community, is invited to bring their animal companions to receive a blessing by our priest. Many of the younger children in our congregation brought their hermit crabs, hamsters, or beloved stuffed animals – some even in their own carriers.
St. Francis of Assisi has always been my favorite saint. So in love with God/Jesus, he preached to the birds and any other living creature who would listen. He was known to move earth worms out of the foot path, so as not to harm any of God's beings. Ahimsa. Something I truly believed in, though now have let pass...
Today's service was to honor our other family members – the ones who stay home every other Sunday morning of the year. I can't imagine my life without Pico and Lucy. They were my companions before I met Bobby and before I became the independent woman I am now. I love those little nerds.

Bobby and I have been contemplating adding another little girl to our life - a canine one. So many breeds though - who can decide? We've agreed on a small variety - being that the little poops are more tolerable. We went to Bark in the Park after the church service, in hopes of finding a breed we could both agree on. There is a huge community of dog owners and they are in full force! All kinds of people were there with all kinds of breeds. Great danes, greyhounds, Burmese mountain dogs, lots of jack russels, pugs, yorkies...
We have a list of breeds to which we have narrowed down:
1. miniature black poodle (my pick)
2. shitzu (Bobby's pick - don't laugh)
3. corgi (this breed reminds me the most of pico)
4. yorkshire terrier
5. tibetan spaniel
6. shiba inu
Does anyone else have any suggestions? This is our criteria:
• Must be child / cat-friendly
• Hypo-allergenic is a plus since I have allergies
• Must be small enough for me to cradle like a baby
