mcsweeneys 22 Just received the 22nd volume of McSweeneys. It's exciting to tear off the tape, open the box, and view the beautiful design object lying within. Three small books within one casing, each one magnetized to the spine to stay secure.

nice
Do you subscribe to McSweeney's and the Believer mag? Tell me what you like about them?
I subscribe to both - the Believer for the last few years and McSweeney's for less than one.
There are many reasons why I subscribe and not much time to elaborate, so I'll be brief.
The Believer features lengthy, in-depth interviews/articles on artists, musicians, writers, and social issues which I appreciate. Although I do enjoy lush photo spreads, a content-based magazine is very refreshing. It usually takes me the whole month to read half the magazine.
The contributors, such as Dave Eggers, Rick Moody, Amy Sedaris, Davy Rothbart, and others are another reason I subscribe (I just ordered Davy Rothbart's book - that guy cracks me up!).
They also devote one issue to music and another to just art, with a recent interview with Matthew Barney.
I'm starting to ramble, but lastly, I love the whole package. Great content, heavy uncoated stock, and clean design.
As far as McSweeney's, it's more about the surprise for me. Like The Believer, I trust what the editors have decided to feature. Plus, many times I end up reading something I might not have necessarily picked out in the bookstore. I have a tendency to stick with certain genres or styles, so this extends my reading.
What I love about both - the art of publishing. Yeah, I love book arts - the feel of the paper, the dust jacket or absence of one, the treatment of type and the handling of copy.
I don't necessarily read everything I receive, but I enjoy supporting a press which is passionate about its product. I hope they continue to thrive.
They depend on subscribers, as they only have one page (only the previous two issue) devoted to advertising, which they still design.
