bye

We're off for a week in LA and San Francisco! The two great people we visited last year are now getting married, so that's a good enough reason to return. We'll be staying with Nicole and then spending the last half of the trip in San Francisco, somewhere I haven't been in sometime. See you when I return!

made by the talented yet demented beth

For her sister's baby shower. They luckily share the same sense of sick humor.

aarrgghhh matey

This is quite possibly the worst picture ever taken of me. I think my eyes are even crossed and I can't even talk about the lips. But for some reason, I feel the need to share because it's sure to get a laugh and I'm desperate for material.

Did you need a close-up? Yes - even larger! HA!

just waiting

Tonight is our area's annual Addy awards, where professionals working in the communication arts get all dressed up, drink too much wine, and put on airs. This year's theme is "find the Addy gold" and has something to do with pirates, treasure maps, and some bizarre skull and cross bones bandannas sent out as teasers but were mistaken as gang paraphernalia by some of the recipients. Funny stuff. Did I mention I loathe pirates?

Because in the past I've waited until the last minute to get ready, I decided to take my shower at 3:30 for the 6:30 dinner. So, now I'm just waiting, waiting, waiting. And drinking beer to calm my nerves.

I predict tonight's biggest winners will be Grow Interactive. They're the guys (and one girl) who now let us use their space for Craft Mafia meetings. It's a warm space with exposed brick walls and design toys galore. If you look closely you can see one of my birds in the upper right of the bookcase. Our crochet workshop last weekend was a hit.

I, unfortunately, didn't fare well with crocheting. For some reason, I have a hard time even making a slip knot, so I quickly gave up. I guess I'll just stick to sewing.

ouch

On Saturday, Jen & Rut came to town so Julie and I met them in Ghent for a tuna melt on rye. It was so nice catching up and J - I love the earrings!

To make a long story short, Bobby and I were cleaning the house later and he was cutting zipties which held a mass of wires together. He should have been using scissors, but didn't know which one I used for sewing (he is forbidden), so he opted to use an Xacto knife. Do you see where this is going?

He cut straight across his thumb between the first and second joint down to the bone. Lots of blood. Severed tendon.

The ER physicians needed to call a hand specialist, who wasn't available, so I called Dr. Pter hoping for some alternatives. He said he would make a few calls but showed up in our ER room within minutes. Dr. P - you're the best. More chickens for you!!

Bobby underwent surgery Tuesday to repair the tendon, so they had to open up his stitches and dig around in there. It was a successful surgery as the tendon didn't retract as expected, but he's in alot of pain and is now sporting a huge splint up to his elbow instead of the little thumb splint pictured.

He can't play drums for at least 6 weeks. His band has a show in 4 weeks and he'll be playing Def Leppard style. I'm pushing for the union jack shorts - we'll see...

So, I know what I'll be getting B this Valentine's Day - a pair of scissors to call his own.

the new coat

Well, I did it. Painting the living room a soft blue-green made it more cozy - a description it previously did not possess. Right after I took this shot, I bounded into the other room (I'm a heavy walker sometimes) and shook the antlers right off the wall. They broke in half while gouging the credenza. I'm taking it as a sign - of what I haven't figured out, but of something.

As you know, I got the idea to paint the living room after seeing this. I picked up the same chip, but ultimately decided to go with something lighter - BM woodland green (459).

It's been a busy couple weeks. I've put aside the craft projects to spend more time designing, reading and (gasp) exercising. I had almost forgotten how much I adore Pilates.

Also getting ready for our trip to the west coast in late February. Did I mention this? Yes, we're going back to L.A. to visit our friends, who are now getting married and have asked Bobby to be in their wedding party. Since we spent a week with them there last year, we decided to cruise up the coast to San Francisco for the following week. I can barely contain the excitement.
