nesting time

So, donuts or eclairs, huh? Sorry for the delay – we actually just found out last week and not earlier as expected. And well, I ended up buying eclairs for everyone in the office.

Bobby and I had a strong feeling over the last month that the baby was a boy and I guess our intuition was right.

I'm still getting used to the fact that I'm having a boy because I've always assumed I'd have a girl. Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited but still in shock. I'll just have to encourage breakdancing instead of ballet and the dollhouse will stay in the attic a little while longer.

After the ultrasound and armed with this new knowledge, I immediately set out to do what I've been waiting to do for soooo long – go shopping. I managed to ignore the frilly dresses and pass by the pink accessories without a problem. I discovered the boys' department is actually loaded with cute stuff and not just full of the sports-themed/cars & trucks disneyfied junk I was expecting.

And now I get to think about decorating the nursery. Our plans for it haven't changed since we were planning on using green, blue and orange anyway. A while ago, I ordered this thrifty crib set:

I absolutely love the pattern even though the quality isn't the greatest, so I tried making matching pillows the other night to spruce it up. They're supposed to be leaves if you were wondering.

Abstract, but they'll do. We should encourage children to use their imagination, right?

wait, wait...

Did I peak your interest with the last post? Much to Greg's chagrin, I did meet these fellows: this guy, this guy and this guy. Since I'm sure they all have google alerts active and one already thinks I'm stalking Mo Rocca, I'll refer to them by their initials.

My boss and his wife are donors to our local public radio station and often get invited to private dinners featuring various NPR commentators and guests. When Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me came to Virginia Beach, a small dinner was held the night before with the commentators mentioned in attendance. Knowing that I am a big fan of the show, my boss pulled a few strings and was able to take me as a guest, too. Except for the commentators, I think I may have been the only person under 50. It was awesome.

So, PS sat at our table. Really nice, intense personality, and I must admit, younger and better looking than depicted in the pictures on his website. He now thinks I'm obsessed with Mo Rocca and probably him, since I referred to something I read on his blog.

"how did you know that?"

"I read it on your blog."

"Oh, it's funny how people find that."

I feel the whole table turn to me. This crazy, young pregnant woman must have snuck in the back door, stolen one of the guest's name tags, and is prepared to kidnap PS. Oh, my.

I also referred to Mo Rocca's Ped Egg You Tube video. PS or any other person at the table has never heard of a Ped Egg. P-E-D Egg, like Podiatric Egg, an egg for your foot, see?

Anyhow, though I manage to embarrass myself everywhere I go, the dinner was great fun. CK was funnier than I had expected. A very nice, lively old gentleman with a great sense of humor. My boss tried to embarrass me by telling him I would name my first born child after him if he would record his voice on my answering machine.

So, the next night was the taping of the show. The taping lasts around 1.5 hours and is edited the next day to make the Saturday deadline (the show is broadcast at 11 am on Saturdays nationally) It aired last Saturday (6-7-08).

yay!

David Sedaris just released a new book and it's on its way to me right now! Did I mention I'm having dinner with some other NPR personalities tomorrow night? More on that to come.

In other news, we find out this Friday if it's going to be donuts or eclairs!
