september showers

I've had two baby showers in the past couple weeks but no real showers for the last three. Renovation of the bathroom is taking much longer than expected and I've been washing my hair in our tiny bath tub for way too long. Long story...

Anyhow, I was so touched by the generosity shown by my families and friends at the baby shower hosted by Beth and Marissa at my parents' house, with assistance from Britta and Amber. It was a super fun shower and instead of the typical annoying baby shower games, guests were invited to paint baby blocks, which Avery can play with at the appropriate age. Quite a few friends and family came from out of town just for the celebration and I can't begin to articulate how grateful we were for their presence. I feel so lucky that little Avery has such amazing people in his life already.

He (we) received a beautiful assortment of handmade, vintage, and new high-design baby items. I must say, he will definitely be the most stylish baby boy on the block. I hope to share pics of some of these later, but in the meantime, here are a bunch of photos my mother took.

Now, if I could only finish those thank-you cards...

lazy labor day weekend

I had been looking forward to this holiday weekend for weeks now, but all I've been doing is lounging inside the house, trying to be Bobby's cheerleader as he tackles our bathroom renovation (more on that later). Being pregnant can be so frustrating because I'd rather be tackling some home improvement project myself, but the physical limitations have been a restraint. So, I just clean, make food, and work on craft projects.

Speaking of making food, I'm on the fourth day of my super strict diabetes diet. I spent Friday morning in a 4 hour class learning how to manage my blood sugars, adhere to the diet guidelines, and use my glucometer. The diet isn't so bad, but it requires me to weigh or measure every morsel I put in my mouth.

Back to crafting, I finished the bird mobile. Very easy. The birds were a cinch to hand sew and gave me an activity to do while waiting in the doctors office. I had to deviate from the original guide when balancing the mobile, as my overstuffed birds kept wanting to hand upside down. So, I strung the fishing line through the two end birds' backs for stabilization. I found the pattern for the birds here.

Hope you guys are enjoying your holiday, too.
