getting closer

Well, he still has not graced us with his presence, so I'm trying to really enjoy the last remaining days of silence, sleep, and selfish relaxation. So far, so good.

The weekend got off to a great start when I noticed a little box peeking out of our mailbox. Amanda and Mike sent Avery the cutest onesie and Max made him a "square fox" softie. We love them - what a wonderful surprise. Thanks, guys!

And today my cousin and his family stopped by on their way back to DC from Kitty Hawk - another great surprise. They're expecting a few weeks after us and I'm looking forward to spending our summers in Chincoteague watching the little second cousins play in the surf and eat Mr. Whippy cones just like my cousin and I did growing up.

a bunny for annie

The weather this weekend was a great excuse to stay in and pull out my sewing machine. Bobby has been busily working on the bathroom renovation and there's not really anything I can do to help, so crafting it is. I've given up on cleaning our house when the renovation material keeps creeping out into the living space. Just gotta wait it out and hope Avery decides to wait, too.

This bunny turned out nothing like I had originally planned, but what can you do? Funny thing is - I totally would have worn that dress back in my college days...actually, I had quite a few I made for myself, minus the big "A."

help me pick out a rocker

I was originally going to borrow a rocker/recliner, but I would only have it for a few months. Armed with a handful of BabiesRUs gift cards, I've started to reconsider. I've narrowed it down to possibly two options. Keep in mind: this chair needs to be comfortable for a nursing mom with a sore tush area.

Option 1:
Wendy Bellissimo chair on rocker rails (not visible in picture)
I sat in this in the store and loved it. Color okay, rounded arms are tolerable. Big plus is that it's 150 dollars cheaper online than in the store making it totally affordable with my gift cards.

Option 2:

This Amy Coe one is brand new and visually rocks! The ottoman comes with the chair and opens up for storage. Problem is that there are no reviews online and it isn't in the store. Looks kinda stiff. More money than the other, but the combo is comparable to the price of the other upholstered chairs on the site.

So, whaddya guys think?

just around the corner

At 37 weeks, I'm a ball of nerves and excitement. The little guy has finally reached term and I've experienced a couple pre-labor symptoms, so he could come at any minute or he could take his sweet ol' time - the anticipation is killing me.

I frequently set up markers before big events - ones that signal the upcoming joyous event or dreaded obligation (joyous in this case). The marker was passed yesterday when Marissa had her baby Annie, so I guess I'm next...eek.

You guys by now know I'm a "high-risk pregnancy" because of the gestational diabetes, but I've managed to keep my blood sugars in check and my weight steady (haven't gained a pound this third trimester), so I don't anticipate having to be induced unless the little pumpernickel decides to wait until past my due date. My recent ultrasound revealed his size to be in the 56 percentile, which is very comforting. I'm hoping he comes before October 23, so A. he will be a Libra and B. I can feast on Halloween candy. Do you know how difficult it is to see all the bags of Halloween candy and not be able to sample just one piece?! For me with the giant sweet tooth, it's devastating.

I think the little guy is waiting until his father finishes renovating the bathroom because he's probably a neat freak just like his dad. I took a shower this morning for the first time in a month (I had been taking baths), so we're one step closer. Bobby has been working on the renovation until 4-5 am every night trying to finish up this project. Poor guy...but it's looking goooood.

I walked into the bathroom the other night and found Bobby in the middle of hanging plastic sheeting. It was very reminiscent of Dexter, which is kinda creepy.

Anyhow, I wish I could share pictures of all the crafty projects I've been working on, except...I haven't been working on anything except dusting every surface, washing and rewashing clothes, and listening to Pregtastic podcasts. I feel so guilty, especially when I found this busy soon-to-be-mama's blog. She's puts me to shame!

It's funny how obsessive one becomes with baby talk once pregnant and I now feel like a wealth of knowledge even though I haven't been through the experience yet. We went to a get-together over the weekend comprised of old friends I hadn't seen in years and I don't think I was asked anything not baby-related. Which is fine, since I rather enjoy hearing everyone's wacky birth stories and advice, but just an observation. I also met a doula, who was so comforting and positive, which made me realize I might do things a little differently next time around.

Okay, so I'm gonna make something tonight. Yep, during Project Runway, er..I mean, the debates. Something perhaps for Annie's homecoming.
