We all love a good before-and-after, right? My coworkers and I make a point of gathering around my computer Thursday afternoons and slowly scrolling down on Design Sponge, going from one trash to another treasure.
We began working on our kitchen five years ago. I've had the vision all along, just not the funds or time for labor. But slowly, our kitchen has progressed from a dark den of fish-fried country to a sunny room designed for baking cakes.
I'm not much of a cook, but I wanted a kitchen that reminded me of my childhood, visiting my great Aunt Thelma and sitting at her 50s metal table as she served up another pan of chocolate covered peanut butter balls. So, I hope Avery will look fondly back on his childhood, of our time spent together making pumpkin pancakes early on Saturday mornings when his daddy is still in bed.
The most recent change is the bamboo floors. Bobby still hasn't added the trim molding, but it makes such a difference to the overall look of the kitchen. Plus, it feels so good under bare feet. Of course, it'll dent if you look at it crossly, but we like to call it our patina.
And the map print is a new addition. I'm hoping over many bowls of cereal sitting at the table, Avery will have his states memorized in the next five years.
And at some point, we'll hook up the lamp that's dangling from the ceiling, but if it's taken five years to get this far, then what will a few more weeks hurt?
